This week was really very exhausting, fortunately is over and I survived. Till Wednesday it was at ease, but especially Thursday and Friday were really hard.
Perfect Thursday
My company scheduled social event on the Thursday’s evening for whole company. Our meeting point was in front of Basel Minster. We met there for our guide, who was a bit older and very nice guy. He spoke mostly Germen and occasionally French, well I didn’t care, because I understood neither of both languages. After a while, he used to make short summary in English, so I was in the picture. He also told me one of the most important sentences in Czech language: “Jedno pivo, prosím.” (“One beer, please.”). His telling was nice and slow, like fairy tale, so I sometimes understood even a bit of his German.
We made one-hour walk around Basel with this nice guide. Obviously we saw Basel Minster with interesting arch, and then we went to the oldest university in Switzerland, which is here in Basel. The university is next to the oldest bridge between Lake Constance and the North Sea. The name of this bridge is Mittlere Brücke. This bridge was very important in the Middle Ages – it was used to determining is some witch is a witch or not and their methodology was tricky. Suspected witch was tied up and thrown to the Rhine and pulled out after some time. If she drowned, it was OK and she wasn’t witch. If she survived, she was witch, because only witch could survive under the water, so they burn her to death.
After some walking around, we ended at Gifthüttli restaurant. Each one got 3-course dinner menu composed of huge salad, veal Cordon Bleu and desert. Everything was really delicious and luckily no one was poisoned – Gifthüttli stands for “Poison hut”.
Wonderful Friday
Friday wasn’t so different. I went on AIESEC BBQ. Meat was provided by AIESEC, but each of participants should bring salad or desert. I decided to bring desert: some cheese roulade and mini doughnuts – I bought them previously and I liked it, so I hope it liked even the others and of course–, I brought a bottle of wine – Czech wine from Moravia.
BBQ was at the Basel’s University campus – quite large complex of shiny buildings, which was a bit hard to find for me. It might be good, to write down, where it is, because I found only really small AIESEC label next to the elevator, but everyone found it – well I guess everyone, who didn’t find it didn’t naturally show up. It was great location for BBQ – calm, no wind and a lot of food and people. I had some sausages and a bit of pasta and some salad. I also tasted two kinds of Swiss beers, not bad I’ll likely take next one in the future, but it could be a bit bitterer.
I literally met people from all over the world.
By name, I remember almost no one, but I hope, I will recognize them by face. So many new people – about 30 participants. There were of course people from local AIESEC Basel, AIESEC alumni, interns and some other people. Everyone was really nice and I enjoyed whole time. I’m really looking for some other AIESEC event and I of course exchange contacts, so I believe I can join some other activity with them.
